Despite knowing what he did he never seemed as bad as he should have. I didn't think of the affect it would have had if they actually showed it. In the book she was raped and murdered. I sort of got the feeling that they were implying the rape but they never even came out and directly said it in the movie. If they only wanted to imply the rape, I imagine it would have been hard to do so, if they skipped passed it and went into a murder scene. Since the girl is so young I can understand the reason to leave rape out of the movie but it does weaken the film. That is a good observation about them not showing the murder.
