It all starts today! The official kick off to Oscar season took place this morning as the Academy of Motion Pictures announced their line up of nominees for the 2010 Oscars.

So I decided that today’s podcast should be done with a couple of other guys to get more thoughts than just my own, so I turned to the great Chuck Norris and Dennis Tzeng.

How i like the format? Love it! I liked getting a lot of different viewpoints, and you guys handled it well, didn’t have a lot of talking over each other or anything. Hearing the other options you guys would have picked for nominations was great. Then you go and make me want to cry again by re-living this moments from Up. So good! When my husband screened this film and came home and told me it not only was the best Pixar film he had ever seen, but it was one of the best movies he had ever seen, I did not believe him.. until I got to see it myself. This podcast has made me want to go watch a bunch of archived ‘At the Movies’ now. Can’t wait for the next one!

Ooo Chuck Norris wanna watch this even more

I’m not that sold on the increase of Oscar nominations from 5 to 10, I think in the years ahead, if not this year, we’ll be seeing a bunch of movies that have no business being nominated and some which everyone knows have no chance at winning, or worse what if one of these undeserving movies actually won?

Maybe they should have increased it to 6, and saw how that went.

Funny how supporting actor and actress have been the categories with the most expected results. Heath and Penélope last year was pretty settled also. So was Bardem in 2008.

no mp3 format :(

Like this format a lot John. Would really like to see some of the old roundtable guys every once in a while if you could shake it (Darren, Doug, Brux).

Think going to 10 was a bit drastic.

Seeing nominated for Oscar on a dvd box just became half as special

I like the format. Good discussion as always. I wish there was a downloadable version so I could take it with me on an iPod.

In a way I like the Best Picture expansion to 10 nominees, but I think we could have used it more last year when Dark Knight, Wall-E, and maybe Iron Man too would have gotten in.

This year, there seems to be fewer worthy films, but I also haven’t seen Hurt Locker or Up In The Air yet.

John, I’m glad you predicted Star Trek as a nominee so I don’t feel crazy for feeling it should have gotten in too. I think the plots, characters, and dialogue of both Avatar & District 9 make them worthy of technical awards only. I think it’s a shame that the first year that not one but two sci-fi films get nominated, they’re two of the most over-rated films of the year. But, I know I’m in the minority on that. (And, just for the record, I gave Avatar a B and District 9 a C+, so I still liked them, just not nearly as much as everyone else.)

With Star Trek snubbed, I’ll be rooting for my 2nd favorite movie of the year, The Blind Side, though I know it has virtually no chance at all. Despite how much *I* liked it, I have to admit I’m shocked it got nominated, especially since its only other nomination is for Best Actress. I think it should have gotten a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination too, but I know I’m biased, and the only other Adapted nominee I’ve seen is District 9 (which had way too many plot holes and way too much random dialogue to get recognized for writing).

SO odd seeing Chuck’s face!

it is odd, used to chat with him on uncut , he can’t sit still lol

great Cage Cast, i forgot how much i loved UP.

really need to see hurt locker, moon and inglorious basterds

Moon was fantastic, it was my favorite movie of last year. Inglourious Basterds was really good too but needed to be edited down.

I found Hurt Locker to be overrated, it was directed very well and the performances are good but the script is weak. For all the complaints about Avatar and its script, I found it odd that no one called out Hurt Locker on it and it even got nominated for best screenplay.

ps

those jwplayers load really slow
